It is important for the Ukrainian gambling market to develop the right culture of consumption - expert

Gambling market in Ukraine

Oleg Kononchuk, General Director of gambling operator Online Slots UK, in his speech during the round table "Topical trends of gambling business development in Ukraine" talked about the current situation with the implementation of self-exclusion system in the local gambling industry. According to him, this mechanism is already working and has no restrictions.

Kononchuk noted that exercising the right to self-exclusion is quite simple. To do this, a citizen needs to apply to one of the legal operators of gambling entertainment in Ukraine with a request to limit his access to the services of the industry. The company, which has received the request, has the right to start the process of self-exclusion of the player. The minimum term of the ban is six months, and the maximum term is three years.

In addition, a person can also be removed from the user register by an immediate family member or a trusted person. To achieve this, an application must be made to the Gambling and Lotteries Regulatory Commission (GRAIL). The matter can also be resolved through the courts.

"The business in question needs responsible customers. The ideal in this context would be a player who is capable of spending as much as he can lose without negative consequences. That is why it is very important for us to develop the right consumer culture. You need to understand that it is just a way to have fun," says Oleg Kononchuk, head of Slots City.

At the same time, Taras Miroshnichenko, CEO of Shangri La Kyiv, said that the Ukrainian gambling market has already started attracting foreign tourists who come to Ukraine specifically to play in local casinos.

"This year we have recorded truly phenomenal attendance figures from the Middle East. They amounted to about 40% of the total data," Miroshnichenko said.
